CSUCC Team “Sretibro” Wins NASA Space Apps Davao 2025, Advances to Global Judging

Davao City, Philippines — October 6, 2025. A student team from the College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT) of the Caraga State University – Cabadbaran Campus clinched Champion at the NASA Space Apps Challenge Davao 2025, held October 4–5, 2025 at the University of the Immaculate Conception in Davao City. The two-day global hackathon gathered innovators to build data-driven solutions to NASA challenge statements released for this year’s event.

Team SretibroChristian, Xavier, Mark Lester, James, and Kyle from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Programs—won with SOLBAD: Solution for Orbital Litter-Binding and Active Disposal, an intelligent concept for tracking and actively removing Low Earth Orbit (LEO) debris. The team registered under the 2025 challenge track for commercializing LEO, aligning their proposal with emerging markets for in-orbit services. Coaching support came from Engr. Erickson A. Tacda and Engr. Melgie Rose C. Acero.

As Davao City’s local champions, Sretibro now advances to Global Judging, where NASA and partner-agency experts review local winners to determine Global Finalists and ultimately 10 Global Winners.

The Davao local event—part of the world’s largest annual, free-to-join space and Earth data hackathon—was staged by the city’s organizing partners and hosted at UIC’s Bajada campus. This year’s Space Apps took place globally on October 4–5, 2025, with participants selecting a local site like Davao to collaborate in a 48-hour sprint.

“Sretibro’s win showcases CSUCC’s growing capability to deliver data-driven, market-aware solutions in space technology and sustainability,” said coach Engr. Erickson A. Tacda. “Their work reflects the rigor and creativity we cultivate across our engineering programs.”

CSUCC extends congratulations to Team Sretibro and gratitude to partners and organizers for championing innovation in the region. Updates on Global Judging milestones will be shared as NASA releases official announcements.
