In a significant step towards advancing research and supporting the local economy, Caraga State University (CSU), through its College of Business and Accountancy (CBA), and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) formalized their partnership with the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the Cocosense: Market Sensing of Coconut-Based Products project.
Dr. Erlin S. Rodas, representing Campus Director Dr. Deomila B. Mamaoag, highlighted the importance of institutional partnerships like this one with DTI. She emphasized that such collaborations are crucial in furthering CSU’s core mandates, particularly in the areas of research and extension services. Dr. Rodas expressed her belief that partnerships with industry leaders like DTI can significantly impact the local community by fostering innovation and development.
DTI Provincial Director Lorijane Secote, who was also present at the event, shared her optimism about the future of this collaboration. She noted that the partnership between CSU and DTI is just the beginning of a fruitful venture that would benefit the local coconut industry and the broader community. Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist Valentina Rose Sagrado and Technical Officer Ms. Anessa M. Tiburon, both from DTI-CFIDP, joined Director Secote in expressing their commitment to the success of the project.
The Cocosense initiative is poised to help enhance the market sensing of coconut-based products, focusing on Cabadbaran City and Butuan City in Agusan del Norte. By assessing market demands and trends, the project aims to provide valuable insights to local coconut producers and entrepreneurs, helping them expand their reach and grow their businesses sustainably.
CSU President Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil was also instrumental in making this partnership a reality. His unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement played a crucial role in bringing the two institutions together. Dr. Daguil acknowledged the collaborative efforts of everyone involved, especially the project team led by Dr. Gladys Amparado. Alongside Dr. Amparado, key members of the project team, including Maria Tita Castillon, CPA, Dr. Walter B. Juera, Charisse Galusan, and Mary Jane G. Magpale, have been working diligently to lay the groundwork for the project’s success.
The signing of this MOA marks a milestone in CSU’s efforts to contribute to the development of the coconut industry in the region. With the combined expertise of CSU and DTI, the Cocosense project is set to drive economic growth and enhance the livelihoods of coconut farmers and entrepreneurs in Agusan del Norte. As the partnership moves forward, it is expected to generate new opportunities for local stakeholders and create a positive impact on the region’s economy.
